Downton Abbey is a highly critically acclaimed British historical drama television series that airs on the ITV channel in the United Kingdom. The period drama series is also broadcast with a several month lag on the PBS channel in the US. In fact, the final run of the series will debut in the US only in the beginning of 2016, after the British audience would have already watched and discussed the series finale. The series was created by Julian Fellowes, who also co-wrote the script with Tina Pepler and Shelagh Stephenson. The drama is co-produced by Carnival Films and ITV Studios and executive produced by Gareth Neame, Julian Fellowes and Rebecca Eaton. It debuted on the ITV channel in the UK on September 26, 2010.

Series 6 of Downton Abbey premiered in the UK on ITV on September 20, 2015. This will also be the final series for the much-loved show. It will air eight episodes until November 8th, and the finale episodes will be broadcast on ITV as a Christmas special on December 25th. One of the show’s stars joked that she is glad that the series is wrapping up. Maggie Smith’s character, in her opinion, is way too old to continue on.
